Summary

A new scale now reliably measures "ego dissolution," a profound psychological shift where the sense of self, akin to the Freudian ego, temporarily dissolves. Validated with over 500 participants, demonstrating 90% consistency, this tool is crucial for Psychology and Mental Health. It assesses this complex latent variable, revealing how its structure can vary across cultures, reflecting distinct Social Representations and Identity. This facilitates the adaptation of psychological assessments. Such insights aid Applied psychology and Psychotherapy Techniques, potentially leveraging Computer science for complex data analysis, to understand this unique mental state.

Abstract

The validated scale showed solid psychometric properties, with potential differences in factor structure in relation to the English version. Considering validation is an ongoing process, it is recommended that studies be conducted comparing ego dissolution scores across distinct substances and different regions of the country.
