Journal of Addiction Science January 1, 2022 Peer reviewed DOI: 10.17756/jas.2022-057 via OpenAlex
Summary
Classical psychedelics may have potential in treating personality disturbances and disorders, although significant theoretical risks and limitations exist. The review suggests that further investigation, including preliminary trials, is warranted despite these challenges due to the clinical burden of personality disorders. Specific personality disorders suitable for additional research are discussed.

Abstract
In this paper we review the existing historical literature on the use of classical psychedelics to treat personality disturbance and disorders. We address the findings and major limitations of that dataset. Finally, we ask which, if any, personality disorders are most suitable for further investigation and whether this is worthwhile. There are significant theoretical risks and difficulties but considering the clinical burden further investigation, including preliminary trials, is indicated.
