Esoteric Buddhism (Vajrayana) is spreading in Russia, driven by interest in alternatives to materialism, mindfulness, integration with other spiritual practices, and ecological consciousness. Critiques from Orthodox theology highlight contradictions in anthropological concepts, risks of spiritual delusion, and the incompatibility of occult elements with Christian teachings on salvation. The article emphasizes the dangers of syncretism and the potential substitution of faith.

В статье анализируется распространение эзотерического буддизма (Ваджраяны) в России, включая его проникновение в нетрадиционные для него регионы. Рассматриваются причины роста интереса: поиск альтернатив материализму, психологическая саморегуляция (mindfulness), синтез с другими духовными практиками, а также экологическое сознание. Уделяется внимание критике с позиции православного богословия: противоречия в антропологических концепциях, риски духовного обольщения, оккультные элементы (мантры, визуализации) и несовместимость с христианским учением о спасении. Подчеркивается опасность синкретизма и подмены веры. The article analyzes the spread of esoteric Buddhism (Vajrayana) in Russia, including its penetration into non-traditional areas for Buddhism. The reasons for the growing interest are examined: the search for alternatives to materialism, psychological self-regulation (mindfulness), synthesis with other spiritual practices, as well as ecological consciousness. Special attention is given to critiques from the perspective of Orthodox theology: contradictions in anthropological concepts, risks of spiritual delusion, occult elements (mantras, visualizations), and incompatibility with the Christian doctrine of salvation. The dangers of syncretism and the substitution of faith are emphasized.
