Exploratory Clinical Study on Controlled álak Microdosing for Post-Detoxification Recovery

Controlled microdosing of álak, a traditional Filipino distilled spirit, may help stabilize nervous system function in people recovering from methamphetamine dependence. In an exploratory clinical study, twelve post-detoxification patients received 5–10 ml of álak (≤10% ethanol) daily for 14 days under medical supervision. Eight of the twelve participants (66.7%) showed marked improvements in sleep continuity, reduced tremors, and lower anxiety scores (mean anxiety reduction 23.4%). No signs of intoxication, craving substitution, or liver distress occurred; one participant reported a mild headache that resolved. These preliminary findings suggest potential GABAergic modulatory effects that could aid neurophysiological stabilization during methamphetamine recovery, warranting further research.
