A comparative assessment of yogasana and karate training on cardio-autonomic function in adolescents: An empirical study.

Regular practice of traditional mind-body exercises may reduce the impact of chronic stress and restore psychophysiological balance. Comparing long-term cardio-autonomic effects of yogasana and karate in 90 male adolescents, yoga practitioners showed the highest parasympathetic activity (HF nu: 45.18 ± 16.00), followed by karate practitioners (43.21 ± 18.14), both significantly above active controls (32.90 ± 15.76). Yoga also had the lowest sympathetic activity (LF nu: 53.90 ± 18.64) and LF/HF ratio (1.40 ± 1.10). Yogasana maintains stable parasympathetic dominance through postures and steady breathing, while karate practitioners exhibit stress resilience with low sympathetic-vagal tone.
