Effects of mindfulness-based interventions on reducing psychological distress among nurses: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Journal of nursing scholarship : an official publication of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing March 1, 2024 Mestiana Karo, Lindawati Simorangkir, Ita Daryanti Saragih et al.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of 16 randomized controlled trials found that mindfulness-based interventions reduce stress and depression in nurses. The pooled analysis showed a moderate effect on stress (standardized mean difference -0.50) and a smaller effect on depression (standardized mean difference -0.42). The evidence suggests these interventions are beneficial, though the authors note the need for more rigorous research with larger samples. The findings support including mindfulness programs in professional development plans to support nurses' mental health.
