Nursing care in ketamine infusions for pain control in adults: a scoping review protocol.
JBI evidence synthesis April 16, 2025 Laura Borges Lopes Garcia Leal, Jadson Nilo Pereira Santos, Valquíria Aparecida da Silva et al.
This scoping review will map evidence on nursing care for adults receiving intravenous ketamine infusions for pain management in hospitals and outpatient clinics. Ketamine use for pain has increased, often as part of multimodal therapy, and while it carries lower risks of hemodynamic issues and respiratory depression, adverse effects require caution. International guidelines recommend monitoring by well-trained providers. Nursing staff handle preparation, administration, documentation, evaluation, adverse effect management, and patient education. The review will follow JBI methodology, searching multiple databases without language or year restrictions, and will analyze results with frequency counts presented in tables and figures.
