Summary

Psilocybin, a naturally occurring hallucinogen, significantly reduced symptoms of depression in 67% of participants within a clinical trial. This study involved 200 individuals with treatment-resistant depression, revealing that those treated with psilocybin experienced enhanced serotonin receptor activity, particularly at the 5-HT2A receptor. Additionally, 50% reported lasting positive changes in mood and outlook after just two doses. These findings highlight the potential of psychedelics in modern medicine and psychiatry, offering new avenues for addressing mental health disorders like schizophrenia through neurotransmitter receptor influence on behavior.
