Therapeutic dissociation: From non-ordinary states to psychological transformation

January 12, 2024 Joshua Clingo 1 citation preprint

Depression, anxiety, addiction, and PTSD share a dissociative core—a disintegration of self and other. Effective treatments like psychedelic therapy, hypnosis, CBT, and meditation also induce acute dissociation, suggesting a common pathway from altered states to long-term relief. Proposed mechanisms include pivotal mental states, the entropic brain, REBUS, and pattern breaking. This paper highlights these methods and mechanisms and proposes a simplified underlying structure and experimental approach for effective treatment without complex pharmacological interventions.
