Psychosis and suicide attempt following a single use of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabiphorol: A case report.

A patient with no history of psychotic symptoms was brought to the emergency department with a self-inflicted stab wound to the chest after consuming 8 mg of Δ9-THCP, a highly psychoactive cannabinoid. The patient, a regular user of standard THC products, experienced psychotic symptoms including depersonalization and a belief that he was already dead for 48 hours following consumption. A single 5 mg intravenous dose of haloperidol was administered for agitation, and the psychotic symptoms resolved before discharge. This case suggests that even experienced THC users may have severe adverse effects from Δ9-THCP due to its potent binding and psychoactivity, highlighting the need for caution with phytocannabinoid isolates.
