Altered subjective reward valuation among drug-deprived heavy marijuana users: Aversion to uncertainty

Journal of Abnormal Psychology August 6, 2015 K. Hefner, Mark. J. Starr, John J. Curtin

Heavy marijuana users who are deprived of the drug show reduced valuation of uncertain rewards, especially when those rewards are more objectively valuable, and this uncertainty aversion increases with greater marijuana use. This suggests that marijuana use produces decision-making vulnerabilities similar to those seen with other drugs of abuse, pointing to potential targets for intervention.
