Differentiation of dissociative psychosis, delirious mania and unspecified dissociative disorder in an adolescent case: a case report

Dissociative psychosis is a condition that typically follows trauma, where psychotic and dissociative symptoms appear together, leading to disorganized behaviors, loss of insight, and worsening hallucinations. It usually resolves suddenly over several days to weeks, and most patients remain amnesic for the episode. A sixteen-year-old female adolescent presented with severe manic and psychotic complaints that began suddenly a week earlier. During hospitalization, she exhibited passivity, delusional misidentification, disorganized speech and behavior. Her symptoms regressed in the fourth week, and she was amnesic for the episode. This report discusses the differential diagnosis and treatment of dissociative psychosis, delirious mania, and unspecified dissociative disorder in an adolescent.
