The attributes of love: a comparative study of Saint John of the Cross and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai

A comparative analysis of the mystical poets Saint John of the Cross and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai reveals both similarities and differences in their conceptions of love, spiritual openness, and language, shaped by their distinct cultural and religious backgrounds. Both poets express a yearning for genuine love and union with God, along with sensations of separation and the joys of profound connection. The analysis suggests that Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai appears to be a spiritual follower of Maulana Rumi, a focus of the examination. Despite using repetitive and varied imagery, the two poets share unavoidable similarities due to a common mystical awareness.
