Death-Related and Mystical Visions Relevant to Consciousness Studies

Paranormal and mystical experiences challenge the assumption that the whole equals the sum of its parts, known as reductionism and ultra-reductionism. While quantum physics describes matter, mysticism is argued to be the foundation of reality, making its study essential to science. Research on near-death experiences has brought post-mortem existence into scientific inquiry, and studies of Marian apparitions, such as those in Medjugorje, could similarly advance scientific imagination. Death-related visions suggest consciousness may survive physical death, and Marian mysticism offers insights into heavenly realities and terrestrial meaning. The accumulating evidence for discarnate existence calls for a moral reevaluation of assisted suicide, viewing terminal illness as a spiritually productive transitional period.
