Compassion-focused chairwork for voice-hearing relationships, body triggers and motivational states.

Psychology and psychotherapy May 11, 2025 Charles Heriot-Maitland, Tobyn Bell 1 citation

Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) effectively addresses auditory hallucinations, with a focus on the relationship between voice-hearers and their experiences. In a sample of 100 participants, CFT demonstrated significant improvements in managing voices and related distress. The therapy employs chairwork techniques to engage clients compassionately, targeting the emotional and motivational aspects of their experiences. This biopsychosocial approach integrates insights from cognitive neuroscience, emphasizing the need for structured intervention protocols to enhance therapist guidance and optimize outcomes for individuals experiencing psychosis.
