Evaluating the Meditation Practices and Barriers to Adopting Mindful Medicine Among Physicians.

American journal of lifestyle medicine March 12, 2025 Tiffany Champagne-Langabeer, Chelsea G Ratcliff, Christine Bakos-Block et al. 7 citations

Physicians who meditate regularly are far more likely to recommend mindfulness meditation to patients than those who do not. In a survey of 171 U.S. physicians, 37.4% meditated weekly, mostly for stress relief. Among regular meditators, 90.6% would recommend MM to patients, compared to 75% of past meditators and 46.8% of non-meditators. Common barriers were time constraints (50.9%) and prioritizing other tasks (51.5%). Non- and past meditators also reported low perceived benefits and inadequate knowledge. Addressing these barriers through education and brief practices could help integrate MM into clinical care.
