Phytochemical screening, phenolic and flavonoid contents, psilocybin, antioxidant, and acetylcholinesterase inhibition activities of the aqueous extract from the fungi Cyathus striatus, Laternea dringii, and Marasmius haematocephalus

Aqueous extracts from the mushrooms Cyathus striatus, Laternea dringii, and Marasmius haematocephalus contain flavonoids, phenolics, alkaloids, and other phytochemicals. Phenolic content ranged from 100.09 to 208.44 mg GAE g⁻¹, flavonoid content from 39.71 to 56.06 mg QE g⁻¹. Antioxidant activity measured by FRAP ranged from 4.15 to 14.43 µM TE g⁻¹, and by DPPH from 88.12 to 133.65 µg mL⁻¹. Acetylcholinesterase inhibition varied from low to strong: 43.11%, 68.53%, and 77.14% for C. striatus, L. dringii, and M. haematocephalus respectively. These findings suggest the mushrooms harbor bioactive compounds with potential for antioxidant and neuroprotective applications.
