Psychedelic substances have recently emerged as promising new tools for improving therapeutic outcomes in various mental disorders. This renaissance was driven not only by recent pharmacological innovations but also by growing frustration with unsatisfactory long-term treatment results and side effects, especially in severe and recurrent depressive disorders. Recent studies have shown initial, promising treatment successes with psychedelic therapies for depression, as well as for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders, addiction disorders, and in improving the mental state of patients with terminal somatic illnesses.
