Depression, or Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), affects about 322 million people and can be debilitating, creating a need for effective treatments. This review examined published articles on the therapeutic potential of psilocybin for depression. Psilocybin showed promise in treating depression and other mental disorders, producing positive and lasting relief of depressive symptoms, as well as significant results for anxiety and addiction treatment. The positive results characterize psilocybin treatment as an innovative therapy that opens new opportunities for patients who do not improve with conventional treatments. More robust research comparing results with standard treatments is needed to further substantiate findings and determine safety and efficacy.
