Given the rising prevalence of anxiety disorder diagnoses in Brazil and worldwide, a narrative review examined studies on the therapeutic potential of psychedelic substances such as LSD, psilocybin, ayahuasca, and MDMA. The findings indicate that these substances, when used in controlled clinical settings and combined with psychotherapy, can promote a significant reduction in anxiety symptoms by acting on neural connectivity and emotional regulation. However, the research still faces methodological limitations, legal barriers, and ethical dilemmas, especially regarding safety, responsible use, and recognition of cultural and religious aspects. Although results are promising, psychedelic therapies remain experimental and require scientific caution, appropriate regulation, and further clinical and neurobiological research.
