Mental disorders are becoming a plague of post-industrial societies influenced by a rapidly evolving civilizational environment. The discovery of LSD and psilocybin's potential in the mid-20th century found application in psychology, with Harvard University's Timothy Leary, creator of the interpersonal theory of personality, being a pioneer in their psychotherapeutic use. Leary attributed them a significant role in human evolution and treating mental disorders, confirmed in penitentiary experiments by significantly reducing inmates' criminal tendencies. Intense mystical experience and insights into the nature of reality proved key to positive effects.
