Transcendental Realities: A Study of Mokṣa and Fanāʾ in the Search for Divine Unity

This analysis compares the concepts of liberation in Advaita Vedānta, as interpreted by Śaṅkarācārya, and annihilation of the self in Sufism, as explained by Rūmī. Mokṣa is the realization of the individual self's identity with the absolute reality, Brahman, achieved through enlightenment and dispelling ignorance. Fanāʾ is the dissolution of the individual ego in the Divine, attained through intense love and mystical experience. Both aim to transcend the individual self for a higher spiritual consciousness, but mokṣa emphasizes knowledge and metaphysical unity, while fanāʾ stresses love and surrender.
