Practice of Shamanism Among Ethnic Muslim Religion In Pitas, Sabah: Assessment According Islamic Perspective

Journal of contemporary Islamic studies November 1, 2022 Khairulnazrin Nasir, Rahim Kamarul Zaman, Muhammad Adam Abd. Azid et al.

Shamanistic beliefs and practices persist among Muslims in Pitas, Sabah, where some community members engage in activities considered superstitious or polytheistic, such as worship rituals and black magic. This qualitative study, based on interviews with seven senior citizens and local figures, documents how indigenous ethnic groups in the district maintain these traditions despite their Islamic faith. The authors call for attention from religious agencies, community leaders, and preachers to preserve authentic faith.
