Terbang Buhun: The Trance Phenomenon among Generation Z in Majalaya

Trance in Terbang Buhun Majalaya performances appears in two forms: natural or real trance and staged or scenario-based trance. This traditional art, centered in West Java, Indonesia, has long historical value and has evolved in function across regions while preserving the Terbang musical instrument. The research examines how the performance is formed at the Walahir Kiansantang Heritage Studio and describes the trance phenomenon. Using qualitative methods with a descriptive and phenomenological approach, data from observation, interviews, and experimental trance validation were analyzed. The findings describe trance from the original narratives of Gen Z practitioners.
