Depression is rising worldwide, prompting interest in alternative treatments beyond standard medications. A review of eight studies from 2017 to 2022 examined ayahuasca's effects on depression. The findings indicate that ayahuasca produces antidepressant effects through neurochemical interactions and psychological experiences. Its safety and therapeutic potential depend on the context of use and the dosage consumed.
