PTSD is a complex disorder with many contributing factors, and its diagnosis is often difficult to get right, showing wide variation in presentation and stability. This review explores the potential of psilocybin-assisted therapy for PTSD, noting that psilocybin is considered a catalyst while psychotherapy remains the mainstay of treatment. The therapy is nondirective, focusing on patient safety and allowing the person to direct support while in a chemically compromised state. The authors caution against seeking simple solutions for inherently complex problems, emphasizing that interactions depend on context and the whole person/world system.
