Virtual Reality and Psychedelics for the Treatment of Psychiatric Disease: A Systematic Literature Review.

A systematic review of 23 clinical studies found that virtual reality (VR) is safe and effective for treating specific phobias, eating disorders, PTSD, gambling disorder, preoperative anxiety, and schizophrenia. Hallucinogenic drugs showed positive effects for depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol dependence, and PTSD. The authors call for more research to test these therapies, alone or combined, across different mental illnesses and populations.
