This literature review examines the role of hallucinogenic fungi, specifically the Psilocybe genus of the Hymenogastraceae family, in the evolutionary development of human consciousness. Through a multidisciplinary approach covering biology, ethnobotany, and neuroscience, it explores how compounds like psilocybin and psilocin trigger significant neurological and psychological effects. The review discusses their impact on human consciousness, noting perceptual, cognitive, and emotional changes. It analyzes human evolutionary and anthropological development, exploring how food availability, psilocybin use, and physiological adaptations may have influenced reproductive success and survival over time.
