Effects of non-invasive brain stimulation on arousal and alertness among traumatic brain injury patients with disorders of consciousness or persistent vegetative State: a systematic review.

A systematic review of 11 studies involving 475 patients with traumatic brain injury and disorders of consciousness or persistent vegetative state examined whether non-invasive brain stimulation techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation can improve arousal and alertness. The findings suggest that these techniques may lead to improvements, but the magnitude and duration of effects varied across studies. Further well-controlled research is needed to determine optimal stimulation parameters, long-term effects, and possible combinations with other rehabilitation approaches.
