Minimal Self Disorders in Schizophrenia.

Turk psikiyatri dergisi = Turkish journal of psychiatry January 1, 2022 İbrahim Aylak, Berna Diclenur Uluğ

The minimal self disorder model proposes that a disturbed sense of self is a core, trait-like feature of schizophrenia. This model identifies three interconnected disturbances: hyperreflexivity (excessive attention to normally implicit processes), diminished self-affection (a loss of self-agency or self-presence), and a disturbed grip on the cognitive-perceptual world (disruptions in the spatio-temporal structuring of experience). The article discusses the historical background of this model, prominent theories of the self, and current approaches, and illustrates the model with clinical symptoms and abnormal self experiences from two patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.
