Acute and chronic effects of MDMA on molecular mechanisms implicated in memory formation in rat hippocampus: surface expression of CaMKII and NMDA receptor subunits.

Pharmacol Biochem Behav September 9, 2005 S. Moyano, J. Del Río, D. Frechilla 29 citations

MDMA (ecstasy) alters molecular mechanisms involved in memory formation in the rat hippocampus. Both acute and chronic MDMA exposure change the surface expression of CaMKII and NMDA receptor subunits, key proteins for synaptic plasticity and memory. These findings suggest that MDMA disrupts normal memory-related signaling pathways in the brain.
