A single injection of methamphetamine or phencyclidine reduces cholecystokinin (CCK) mRNA in the posterior cortex and hippocampus of rat brains from 30 minutes to 48 hours after treatment, while no significant changes occur in the frontal cortex. The findings suggest that CCK gene expression responds differently to these psychoactive drugs across different cortical regions.
