Spermidine triggers autophagy through pathways that do not involve mTOR, while a very low dose of rapamycin inhibits mTOR. Boosting autophagy may help clear built-up waste products and misshapen proteins in mevalonic aciduria, and it could also support cellular energy balance by improving the quality control of mitochondria.
