Breakdown in the temporal and spatial organization of spontaneous brain activity during general anesthesia

During anesthetic-induced unconsciousness, two temporal features of brain activity—long-range temporal correlations (measured by power-law exponent) and temporal variability (measured by standard deviation)—both decrease globally across the brain compared to wakefulness. The spatial relationship between these two features becomes altered, or 'decoupled,' primarily due to changes in the spatial pattern of long-range temporal correlations rather than temporal variability. This suggests that the topographical organization of long-range temporal correlations is crucial for maintaining optimal neural dynamics during normal consciousness, supporting the temporo-spatial theory of consciousness.

Psychometric properties of the Short-Form Five Facets of Mindfulness Questionnaire among nursing students in China: A confirmatory factor analysis.

The Chinese Short-Form Five Facets of Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ-SF) shows good overall fit for measuring mindfulness in nursing students in mainland China, with confirmatory factor analyses supporting a five-factor structure. Composite reliability values ranged from 0.685 to 0.870, and average variance extracted values from 0.426 to 0.627. One-factor models provided the best fit for four of the five subscales. The cross-sectional study included 240 undergraduate nursing students from a Beijing school of nursing who completed the FFMQ-SF and the Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale. Results suggest the scale is a valid instrument for assessing mindfulness and its relationship with mental health in this population.

Study on the antidepressant activity of (2R,6R; 2S,6S)-Hydroxynorketamine (HNK) and its derivatives.

Four compounds derived from (2R,6R;2S,6S)-hydroxynorketamine (HNK) were tested for antidepressant effects in mice. In the forced swimming test, mice given 10 mg of HNK, compound I5, or compound I6 showed significantly less immobility time at 1 hour and 7 days compared to saline controls. Compounds C and D also reduced immobility in a glass cylinder test. In the locomotor sensitization test, compounds C and D increased movement distance on days 7 and 15 relative to day 1. Both compounds induced conditioned place preference, indicating rewarding effects. The results suggest compounds C and D may have some antidepressant activity, while HNK itself produced a rapid but short-lived antidepressant effect within one week.

A Study of Mystical Thinking in Ancient Chinese Expressions: Focusing on “Chen Wei”

Mystical thinking in ancient Chinese culture was originally expressed through spoken sound and language, as seen in blessings, declarations to spirits, shamanic practices, court and folk poetry, and proverbs. This paper examines materials from the Han dynasty texts of 'Chen Wei' to analyze how mystical consciousness and a preference for cautious speech and silence over verbosity were linguistically and culturally encoded. It traces the origins of this thinking back to ancient interactions with gods and spirits, then discusses how the mode of expression gradually shifted from oral sound to writing, showing an evolution in how mystical content was conveyed across Chinese cultural history.
