The effect of mindfulness-based interventions on mental health outcomes and wellbeing of informal caregivers of people with mental illness: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

International journal of mental health nursing August 1, 2024 Xiaofeng Zhang, Huilin Ren, Caixia Wang et al. 8 citations

A meta-analysis of 13 studies with 1007 participants found that mindfulness-based interventions reduce stress, depression, and caregiver burden, and improve mindfulness and quality of life among informal caregivers of people with mental illness. The interventions did not significantly reduce anxiety. The analysis showed a large effect on stress reduction and moderate effects on depression and mindfulness, with smaller improvements in quality of life and caregiver burden. The authors call for more rigorous research to confirm these benefits.
