Exploring the impact of mindfulness-based training on the well-being of physical therapists.

Journal of clinical and translational science January 1, 2023 Akash Patel, Ruchi Bhargava, Gretchen Roman 3 citations

A mindfulness-based training program for physical therapists improved work engagement, mental health, and reduced moral distress. Thirteen physical therapists participated in a pilot study; nine completed six mindfulness sessions over three months covering topics such as meaning in therapy, self-awareness, compassion fatigue, and self-care. The control group of four did not receive the training. Therapists reported that difficulty prioritizing self-care and limited personal time hindered well-being, while the inability to effect change contributed to compassion fatigue and burnout. The program shows promise for enhancing therapist well-being, employee retention, and patient care.
