A 12-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program, added to routine care, lowered blood pressure and improved mental health and quality of life in adult women with Stage I or II hypertension. Systolic pressure fell from about 143 mmHg to 134 mmHg and diastolic pressure from about 86 mmHg to 79 mmHg in the MBSR group, while the control group showed no significant change. Scores for stress, anxiety, depression, and quality of life also improved significantly in the MBSR group. The findings suggest MBSR is a beneficial complementary intervention for managing hypertension and its psychological impacts.
