Carotid Artery Occlusion Following Ingestion of LSD

A 20-year-old white woman developed left-sided paralysis after ingesting LSD. Initial angiography showed severe narrowing of the internal carotid artery at the siphon, which within days progressed to complete blockage at that site. The authors suggest that LSD, an amine derivative of ergot alkaloids, caused the initial blood vessel constriction and subsequent occlusion.
