Avaliação Hepática em Ratos Wistar Expostos ao Chá de Ayahuasca

Ayahuasca tea, typically used in shamanic contexts to induce spiritual experiences, was tested on adult male Wistar rats (n=24) divided into control and treated groups. The treated group received a daily dose four times higher than that consumed in religious settings. No morphological changes were observed in either group, but morphometric analysis revealed a statistically significant reduction in hepatocyte and nuclear volumes in the treated group. Blood biochemistry showed statistically significant reductions in gamma-glutamyl transferase and alkaline phosphatase. The findings suggest that at this dose and exposure duration, the tea likely does not alter liver function or structure, despite a reduction in hepatocyte size.
