Neurotechnology in the Development of Cyber-Psychotherapy Systems for Inducing and Measuring Altered States of Consciousness in Transpersonal Psychotherapy

Transpersonal psychotherapy treats the psyche as multidimensional, with distinct levels of consciousness governed by different laws. Transpersonal psychology studies human nature, assuming people have potentials beyond the ego and integrating spiritual experience into an understanding of consciousness. Altered states of consciousness have long been used in this therapy, with techniques like holotropic breathwork. Neurotechnology now offers alternative ways to induce and measure these states. This chapter reviews key Neurotechnology concepts and technologies for inducing and measuring altered states for transpersonal psychotherapy, proposing an architecture for a Cyber psychotherapy system that uses them.
