Transpersonal psychotherapy draws on transpersonal psychology, which views the psyche as multidimensional with distinct levels of consciousness, each governed by different laws. It assumes humans have potentials beyond the ego and integrates spiritual experience into understanding the psyche. Altered states of consciousness have long been used therapeutically, with techniques like holotropic breathwork. Neurotechnology now offers alternative ways to induce and measure these states for therapy. This article reviews key neurotechnology concepts and technologies applicable to inducing and measuring altered states for transpersonal psychotherapy.

Altered states of consciousness have long been used in this therapy, with techniques like holotropic breathwork. Neurotechnology now offers alternative ways to induce and measure these states. This chapter reviews key Neurotechnology concepts and technologies for inducing and measuring altered states for transpersonal psychotherapy, proposing an architecture for a Cyber psychotherapy system that uses them.

Gas discharge visualisation (GDV) technology, which measures electro-photonic emission from fingertips, is proposed as a tool to test whether personality and consciousness survive physical death. A case study measured psychoemotional functions via GDV before and after death, then used a statistical test for the difference of means to compare average energy values. The Quantum Hologram Theory of Consciousness (QHTC) proposes that consciousness is non-local and that altered states can reveal how the mind operates in multiple ways. Drawing on Schrödinger's idea that the quantum wave function is a field of consciousness, QHTC extends holographic theories of the brain: the brain processes images into interference patterns, like a laser hologram, and then reconstructs them into virtual images. These quantum waves store vast information, which the brain uses to construct three-dimensional reality. The article argues that QHTC should be the main framework for research on altered states of consciousness and discusses methods for gathering data and entering altered states for experiments.
