Psilocybin, a fast-acting antidepressant used with psychotherapy, does not appear to improve or impair memory consolidation of material learned outside of acute intoxication. In a placebo-controlled, double-blind, cross-over study with 20 healthy volunteers, psilocybin had no effect on declarative memory consolidation immediately after a session or on overnight consolidation the following night, as measured by the Groton Maze Learning Task, Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test, and Pair Associative Learning Test. These findings contribute to the safety profile of psilocybin in therapeutic settings.
