The Role of Psilocybin in End-of-Life Care: Evidence, Mechanisms, and Guidelines

Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice November 1, 2025 Mackenzie Unsworth, Mary Lou Galantino, Robert Sandoval

Psilocybin shows promise in end-of-life care by reducing anxiety and depression. Evidence from clinical trials suggests it can improve psychological and spiritual well-being in terminally ill patients. The article reviews the mechanisms behind these effects and offers practical guidelines for clinicians to assess patient use and safely integrate psilocybin into practice, while respecting its current legal status in the United States.
