A controlled study on 38 volunteers assessed the effects of 250 mcg/kg DMT injected intramuscularly, with 26 receiving the drug and 12 receiving a placebo. Despite the low dose compared to earlier studies, significant differences from placebo emerged across multiple syndromes of altered consciousness: visual hallucinations or illusions, impaired memory and attention, changes in body image, depersonalization, derealization, euphoria, an anxious-depressive state, and delusion. Somatic side effects included subjective respiratory troubles, dizziness, and weakness.
