Sufism in Malaysia and its impact on the revival of the Islamic Dawah

Al Hikmah International Journal of Islamic Studies and Human Sciences February 28, 2022 Amr Mohamed Sayed Imam, Mohamed Ebrahim El-Sherbiny Sakr

Sufism, focusing on spiritual purification of the heart and soul, became integral to Islamic heritage by the third century AH. In Malaysian society, Sufi practices such as wirds (liturgical prayers) and remembrances have been passed down through generations, helping sustain Islamic faith among youth and adults and positively influencing non-Muslims living among them. This study observes beneficial Sufi manifestations in Malaysia, aims to preserve these piety-oriented practices, and roots them in Islamic legal perspectives while addressing criticisms raised against them.
