The Effects of Folic Acid on Testicular Histology, Sperm Quality, and Spermatogenesis Indices Following 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine Exposure in Adult Male Rats

Addiction and Health September 4, 2023 Iman Rad, Arezoo Saberi, Najmeh Sadat Koochakzadeh-Nematollahi et al. 6 citations

In adult male rats, the drug MDMA (a form of ecstasy) damaged sperm quality, testicular structure, and hormone levels, and disrupted antioxidant enzyme activity. Giving folic acid alongside MDMA partly reversed these harmful effects, bringing the measures closer to those of untreated rats. The findings suggest that folic acid may help protect male reproductive function against MDMA toxicity.

Artemisia absinthium L. (Wormwood) Extract Effect on 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine Withdrawal in Rats: An Animal Study.

Addiction & health January 1, 2025 Mohadese Kamali, Hoda Kamali, Arezoo Saberi et al.

In rats, a 10% or 25% ethanolic extract of Artemisia absinthium (wormwood) reduced the severity of certain withdrawal symptoms—such as writhing, body dragging, teeth chattering, and diarrhea—induced by MDMA and naloxone. Lower concentrations (5%) and the MDMA-only group were not well tolerated. The extract's anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties may underlie these effects, but further research is needed to optimize dosing for managing addiction withdrawal.
