A Mind-Body Skills Course Among Nursing and Medical Students: A Pathway for an Improved Perception of Self and the Surrounding World.

Global qualitative nursing research January 1, 2018 Marja Van Vliet, Miek C Jong, Mats Jong 18 citations

Medical and nursing students who took a Mind-Body skills course—including mindfulness meditation and guided imagery—reported an increased ability to be present, greater self-awareness, and deeper connections with others. The course served as a pathway to inner awareness and supported connecting with others and the surrounding world. Despite self-care being recognized as a core competence for health professionals, it receives little attention during education. This study examined the lived experiences of Dutch medical and Swedish nursing students with such a course, using a phenomenological hermeneutical method.
