Acute renal injury cause by confirmed Psilocybe cubensis mushroom ingestion.

A 15-year-old male developed acute kidney injury 36 hours after consuming Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, with symptoms including hypertension, nausea, and abdominal pain, and a creatinine level of 450 mmol/L. The mushrooms were confirmed by mass spectrometry to contain psilocin. He was hospitalized and discharged on day 5, with follow-up showing complete recovery of kidney function. This is the first reported case of acute kidney injury linked to confirmed ingestion of this mushroom species, though adverse effects from psilocybe mushrooms are generally rare.
