Ultraviolet, infrared, and thin-layer chromatography (TLC) methods can separate and identify hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD, DMT, and psilocybin. The paper describes specific procedures for each of these substances and provides general background information on hallucinogenic drugs.
A collaborative study involving 11 collaborators tested a method for identifying and measuring lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). The presumptive test proved useful for quick preliminary checks. Racemization aided identification through paper chromatography. Assay recovery based on the Sandoz LSD-25 reference standard was 98.0%, and based on Ergonovine Maleate USP Reference Standard it was 96.5%. The method is recommended for adoption as official, first action.
